Women’s League salutes women
Women have demonstrated determination to ensure public health safety by staying home in compliance with President Mnangagwa’s call for a 21-day lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19, Zanu PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona has said.
She said it was humbling that most women elected to abandon their small businesses from which they eke out a living for their families, to minimize the spread of the devastating coronavirus, which has destabilized the world at a rate unseen since the Second World War. Over 97 000 people, including three Zimbabweans, have been killed by the coronavirus as at this afternoon.
“It is against this background that the ZANU PF Women’s League would like to thank and salute all the women of Zimbabwe who have demonstrated their patriotism and determination to public health safety, by complying with our President Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s call for all citizens to strictly adhere to the conditions of the 21-day national lockdown to curb the spread of the pandemic,” she said.
“The Zanu PF Women’s League is humbled by this gesture of compliance, especially given the prevailing harsh economic environment. It can also be recalled that women constitute the majority of the workforce in the informal sector.
“Nevertheless, the women have been undeterred to take heed of the call in fighting the Covid-19 virus.”
Cde Chinomona implored citizens to remain resilient and guard against the circulation of fake news on social media platforms, aimed at instilling fear and causing unnecessary panic among citizens, and also derail Government efforts of containing the spread of the pandemic.
She said it was encouraging that Government, with the help of its partners, was implementing a number of measures including the 21-day national lockdown and promoting social distancing, and high personal hygiene.
The government is speedily working towards decentralizing the testing for coronavirus.
Cde Chinomona advised citizens, in particular women, to continue praying and crying for mercy and the grace of God, particularly during this Easter holiday which starts today, to protect people during these trying times.
“You will agree with me that if we as women humble ourselves, cry unto the living God and pray fervently in one accord, something will shift in the spiritual realm and God will have mercy on us and heal our land.”
The Zanu PF Women’s League has further applauded the Government’s efforts in helping vulnerable groups of society through cash transfers.
Cde Chinomona said as the nation complies with the lockdown, the Women’s League remains determined to play its part in assisting the party and Government to achieve the sustainable gender equality aspirations and pledges to continue the fight for 50/50 gender representation through equitable policies at all levels and across all sectors in pursuit of total political and socio-economic empowerment for every woman by 2030.
She also wished citizens a blessed Easter holiday.
